World's first Computer

Welcome to my section World's First, which is going to increase your knowledge about any invention which was released in this universe for the first time. Do not forget to comment if you like my posts and do like us on facebook.

1. What is Computer?

Well this word Computer did not actually represented any sort of machine in 1613, yes the word Computer has been used since 1613 when any human in the society used to perform any sort of calculations and computations . Till 19th century people explained a word computer by the same definition  since 1613, but revolution of machines in 20th century gave rise to this word Computer when the primary function of any machine was to calculate.

2. First Computer (mechanical) or a machine for automatic computations

In 1882 the first machine which could perform computations automatically, was invented by Charles Babbage  which was known as difference Engine. Difference Engine was able to perform computations of numbers in several sets and results was made in hard copies also by engine itself. But this machine was not fully functional due to less funding and Babbage was unable to complete his work on Difference Engine to have a fully functional version of the machine.

(In 2000 this function was completed by London Science Museum which is known as printing mechanism)

In 1837 Charles Babbage again proposed a general mechanical computer which was first in the history ever, named Analytical Engine had Arithmetic Logic Unit, initial flow control, punch cards as well as memory (integrated). Unfortunately, again this function was not completed because of less funding and was also never completed while Charles Babbage was alive. In 1910, Henry Babbage, who was Charles Babbage's youngest son, completed a part of Analytical Engine which was made capable in order to perform basic calculations.

3. First Programmable Computer Z1

From 1936 to 1938 German Konrad Zuse created Z1 in the living room his parents. It was considered as the first electro-mechanical binary programmable computer as well as first functional modern computer with some limitations in programming.

4. Concept of Modern Computer

Alan Turing proposed the Turning machine first in 1936 and proved himself as the foundation for concepts and mechanisms about computing and computers.Turning Machine was such a device which was used to print symbols on paper  in such a manner that resulted a series that was composed on logical instructions. Without these functions and fundamentals we wouldn't have the opportunity to get computers we are using today.

5. First Computer with Electrical Programming

The first computer with electrical programming was named as Colossus, proposed by Tommy Flowers, and was first presented in 1943. The Colossus was invented in order to help British code breakers to read encrypted German messages.

6. First Digital Computer

In 1937, the development of ABC was began by Professor John Vincent Atanasoff and graduate student Cliff Berry and continued until 1942 at Iowa State College .

In ABC, vacuum tubes were used for digital computation and it was an electrical computer including Boolean logic and binary math without any CPU. On October 19, 1973,  the decision was signed by the US Federal Judge Earl R. Larson that the ENIAC patent by John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert was invalid and was named Atanasoff who invented the electronic digital computer.

John Mauchly  and J. Presper Eckert invented the ENIAC at University of Pennsylvania and started construction in 1943 which was unable to be completed till 1946. It had an area about 1,800 square feet and 18,000 vacuum tubes were used, almost 50 tons weight. Although it was finalized by the Judge that computer was the first digital computer was the ABC but it is still considered by many that the ENIAC was the first digital computer because of its functionality.

7. EDSAC, first stored program electric Computer

The first stored program electronic computer was the EDSAC which was the earlier British computer. On May 6, 1949 EDSAC performed its first calculation and was the first computer which was able to play a very first graphical computer game, named "Baby".

During the same time at the Victoria University of Manchester, Manchester Mark 1 was another computer that was capable of running stored programs. This version of the Mark 1 computer was operational in April 1949

8. Konrad Zuse in 1942,  started his work on the Z4 which later recognized as the first commercial computer.

9. On April 7, 1953 IBM  introduced the 701, recognized as first commercial scientific computer

10. Whirlwind machine was introduced by the MIT on March 8, 1955, a revolutionary computer that was the first digital computer with real-time graphics. and magnetic core RAM.

11. In 1956  at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology ,TX-O (Transistorized Experimental computer) was demonstrated which was the first transistorized computer.

12. In 1968Hewlett Packard introduced the first mass-marketed desktop computer named HP 9100A.

13. Later on November 15, 1971, Intel introduced the first microprocessor, the Intel 4004.

14. Finally The First Personal Computer

The term "personal computer" was first time introduced in 1975, Ed Roberts when he presented the Altair8800. Although the the KENBAK-1 was considered to be first personal computer as it was first introduced for $750 in 1971. KENBAK-1 was based on a series of switches to input some data and output data by turning on and off a series of lights.
